A family of three claimed the pilot and flight crew told passengers they needed rest. Passengers on flight TOM269 from Izmir’s Adnan Menderes Airport to Manchester Airport were told to leave the plane and transfer to a hotel until the flight was rescheduled.
The flight was delayed until yesterday (July 6) morning before the crew announced the rest, Manchester Evening News reported.
One passenger, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the return flight to Manchester had already been delayed by more than four hours before informing them that they would not leave Turkey as planned.
The passenger, 40, said: “The flight was originally scheduled to leave at 12:50, but we weren’t ready to take off until about 5 o’clock. When we finally got on the plane, we were told to sit down as fast as possible. To be created.
“The pilot then went to Tanoy and said that he and the crew needed to rest due to fatigue. They explained that we had to leave the plane and we would be transferred to a hotel and TUI would contact us.
“No one could believe it. Everyone thought it was a joke because we were already four hours late. People were screaming, people were panicking and screaming. There were kids crying and screaming, everyone was stressed. It was absolutely crazy.”
The passenger, who has epilepsy, said people were also asked to hand over duty-free goods bought at the airport and were given a ticket to claim their goods back when they returned to their flight, which was rescheduled for yesterday evening.
The man, who is traveling with his wife, 33, and their four-year-old son, said all passengers on the TUI flight were taken to the same hotel, but said information about their flight had not been properly updated.
Speaking before the rescheduled flight, the passenger, who lives near Halifax, said: “We are stuck in a 40-degree heat, with no idea what is going on. We have not been told when we will be able to return. Offering 150 Holiday Vouchers.
“My wife lost two days’ work and my child missed his transition day at school to meet his new teachers. We were dropped off at a hotel in the middle of the highway.
“I’m trying not to put too much pressure on my epilepsy because it can send me into big convulsions, but it’s the worst thing not to know what’s going on. If we knew what the plan was, we could make a trip or something.”
Passengers say the cancellation of the flight was the latest in a series of setbacks for them regarding their travels – originally planned to go to Egypt instead of Turkey.
“We were supposed to go to Egypt on June 22 but they canceled the holiday two days ago because they said the flight was non-existent,” he explained.
“We re-booked for 14 nights instead of going to Turkey on June 21 and were two and a half hours late from Manchester.
“I will never go with TUI again and I have spent a lot of money with them in the past. It’s a complete disaster, I never knew anything like that in my whole life.”
TUI has apologized to customers affected by the delayed flight and said it was a sign of goodwill for the inconvenience to all passengers.
Passengers have also been sent information on how to claim compensation.
A TUI spokesman said: “We would like to apologize to customers for the TOM269 trip from Izmir to Manchester on Tuesday 5 July, which was delayed until the next day.
“It simply came to our notice then.
“We keep customers up to date and provide overnight accommodation, meals and snacks as needed.
“We understand that last-minute delays are incredibly frustrating and want to reassure customers that we will not leave them stranded abroad.”
