Ohio State basketball with modest rise in latest ESPN Bracketology

Okay, okay, we know football season is right around the corner and that’s usually what pays the bills for college football behemoths like Ohio State, but the Buckeye program can play a little hoops, too.

So, from time to time, we like to check in on what ESPN’s resident bracketologist, Joe Lunardi, has to say about where he thinks OSU fits in the NCAA hoops landscape. Obviously, there are a lot of unknowns with Ohio State basketball because of all the new faces that will be a part of the program this winter, but it’s still worth predicting how good the Buckeyes believe the national media will be.

On that note, there is some good news, yet a bit sour. Based on what we last saw from Lunardi, he modestly moved Ohio State from the No. 9 seed line to No. 8 in his last Bracketology projection. That’s not too encouraging but it does lend one to believe that the freshmen and transfers coming into the program might be talented enough to take things forward.

So where do Lunardi’s bookies stand and what teams have they matched up to so far in March? He has OSU heading west to Las Vegas and matching No. 9 seed Virginia Tech. Gonzaga is the No. 1 seed in the region.

Needless to say, it’s too early to get too excited or pessimistic about how good the Ohio State basketball team is predicted to be this season, but we’ll continue to follow where it goes after the season begins.
