Democratic California Gov. Gavin News is on fire during a holiday in Montana, one of 22 states where California has banned state-funded travel over its LGBT-related legislation.

Although Newsom’s office has made it clear that he did not use government funds to fly to his Montana vacation, the troubled governor has faced criticism several times for disobeying the policies of his own administration.

“The travel ban applies to the use of state funds. The governor’s travel is not paid for by the state. Combining the two is an effort by Gotcha journalism that is not Gotcha or journalism,” Anthony York, News’s senior communications adviser, said in a statement. On Twitter. “The governor is on vacation with his family. He will be back this weekend.”

Newsom attended a dinner at a world-class French laundry restaurant even though the state was under strict COVID-19 lockdown in late 2020.

Newsom’s office initially argued that dinner was out and therefore did not need a mask. Dinner party photos suggest otherwise.

Newsom was later pressured to apologize, and he admitted to breaking the policy on large gatherings.

Whitmer of Michigan apologized after the muskless picture appeared on social media

“I want to apologize to you because I have to preach and practice, not just preach and practice, and I did my best to do it,” Newsom said at the time. “We’re all human. We all fall short sometimes.”

“I should have stood up and … I should have gone back home … the consciousness of what I was preaching was the complete opposite,” he said. “I need to preach and practice, not just preach.”

Still, Newsom made the same mistake again in January after posing maskless with former Los Angeles Lakers star Magic Johnson. California still had statewide mask orders.

The state ended its mandate on the mask in April and now simply says the masks are “strongly recommended” inside the home.
