Fabricio Macias is the Latest To Step Up In Altoona – Pirates Prospects

It was a very interesting season in Altoona. They started the year with one of the most intriguing prospects in the system, enough so even some national media outlets got a glimpse.

While Lever Peguero, Mike Burrows (before his promotion) and others certainly played well, it was some of the lesser known names that really stole the show for Curve.

The latest to do so is Fabricio Macias. The 24-year-old outfielder joined the Curve after recovering from injuries in both Bradenton and Greensboro and has played well in July.

In 13 games with the curve, Macias has a slash of .340/.333/.460, with six doubles, 12 RBIs and two steals. He is currently riding a four game hitting streak, and has reached 11 in 13 contests this month.

During his current hitting streak, Macias has two doubles among his four hits, and has scored seven runs. That includes getting the second half running for a bases-clearing double curve on Friday.

Macias joins two other notable players who didn’t get much attention during the season, Aaron Shackelford and Andres Alvarez.

The duo ranks second and third in home runs and home runs in the entire Pirates organization (Alvarez is in a three-way tie with Mason Martin and Darriel Lopez).

Altoona has dealt with its fair share of injuries this year, with Nick Gonzales, Henry Davis and Matt Gorski currently missing significant time. It’s created an opportunity for playing time that wouldn’t have been there otherwise, and these three continue to make the most of it.
