Cedric and Fabio bring us the latest from tour | Video | News

Granit Xhaka is a happy man at work right now.

The midfielder is currently working hard with the squad during our pre-season tour of America, fully focused on preparing for the new campaign.

The most experienced member of the squad in terms of first-team appearances, Granit is one of the leaders in the dressing room and has spent the last few weeks helping new players settle into life at Arsenal.

It’s a role he relishes and as his relationship with the manager continues to evolve, so does his influence.

Another relationship that is growing week by week, is with supporters. Granit spoke at length about his connection with the Emirates faithful in a piece for The Players’ Tribune last season. Since then the midfielder says he feels ‘a lot of love’ from his men.

We caught up with Granit at training camp in Orlando and asked him about the tour so far, new arrivals, supporters, upcoming season and more…

On enjoying the tour so far…
(It’s been) so good, so far so good. Of course we are here for work. We are here to prepare for the start of pre-season. very hot Working together is not so easy, but we are giving our best. The team is doing well. We have staff here as well, and I’m very happy at the moment.

In Everton’s game…
First of all, it’s not a friendly game for me. These games give us a lot of confidence. Every clean sheet, every score by every player, every win, we can take with us for the next few weeks before we kick off. These games should give us a lot of confidence, the win and in my opinion we played a great game for a lot of minutes and we have to continue and work and believe in ourselves.

Last season recap…
Yes, in the end we did not achieve what we wanted. We had everything in hand. That’s why we were definitely very, very disappointed but it’s over, we can’t change anything, what we can change is the future and the future started in pre-season. We also have new signings, they are already doing a very, very good job, very good with their teammates, very open, very humble. They know what they want and we’re trying to help them and I’m looking forward to the start of the season.

His goal against Manchester United…
Yes, after what happened, everything between the fans, the people and myself I think it was one of the most beautiful moments since I’ve been at this football club. After scoring the goal as well, the reaction, the moment in the stadium, I felt very, very good, very happy. But also, happy for the three points we got on this day.

Now about his relationship with fans after his feature last season…
So good, I’ve always wanted to turn things around to get along well with them. I have always respected people. There was a moment where we both might have misunderstood each other but that’s over for me. I feel a lot of love from people outside and my job is to give something back to them on the pitch. They know how I am. I give 100 percent every time for this football club, sometimes good, sometimes less, but the love I feel right now is very, very good.

On why it was important to get his message out…
Yes I did it in my body, inside. Since more than two years (before), but also for the future. I am almost 30 now, in September. I have nothing to do only with myself, but also for the future of the young players (who are) 19, 20, 21 years old that we have here. I hope that no one will (share) this experience of mine and also tell the fans that it is not so easy. It’s not the best way to do anything against a player, and probably got the message across. To support us – how shall I say it – each of us gives everything to this football club. Sometimes going well, sometimes less so. But to help us support us, stay with us. Because we want to achieve as much as possible for this football club. From us, everyone in this football team wants it.

On how important his relationship with Mikel Arteta has been over the past few seasons…
I mean it can’t be described in words, and thank him. Because, how can you say – he always supported me. I always tried to give something back to him. Yes, how can I say – almost 30, this is my seventh season for this football club. I feel very, very happy, and feel like I’m at home here too. Not just to Mikel, but from teammates to staff, to the club. I want to give something back to them. I try every day, and of course when you have people around you to support you, to try to be with you to help you. It is very easy to do.

Regarding her relationship with the manager…
Very good. Very honest, very open. I’m like that myself, and so is he. He wants to have that clarity, and yeah how can I say – I have a very open, always open conversation with the coach.

On the role he plays in helping players integrate…
I think it’s not just me, the players have a lot of experience. Of course the coach, he is with us in the dressing room, on the pitch. Sometimes he’s not even there, so it’s our job to bring the team together as experienced players. We have to believe in ourselves to get them something like that because we have a very young squad. But they’re young people who are listening to us, they’re also trying to take the words that we’ve given them, to improve and have the feeling that we’re on a very, very good path.

Looking forward to this season…
The signings that we gave more than our winnings, they gave us the mentality and of course the quality of how to win. It’s like a puzzle, you definitely need quality, but if it doesn’t fit the team, it’s very difficult to achieve anything. All the signings fit in very well in the team, we are getting better year on year and it is easier said than done, for sure, but I have a very good feeling that we will be ready for the start against Crystal Palace and let’s see and hope we achieve our goals. can achieve

In the mid-season World Cup…
Of course, it will be something special, the World Cup. But if I’m honest, I’m not even thinking about the World Cup for a second, because it’s still four-five months away. My focus is completely here and then when it comes to the World Cup, of course it’s different, but maybe it’s not so bad for our Premier League players because at the end of the season I think we’re more tired than other leagues because we have that. Many games, but let’s see. It’s very special, the World Cup in winter, for the first time and I’m looking forward to it.
