Cam Heyward isn’t happy with ESPN’s latest ranking of defensive linemen

The Pittsburgh Steelers have always been known for their defense. The overall unit may not always give hope to Spark fans, but the players who wear black and gold are consistently a proud group.

The current Pittsburgh defense has a number of players who could fit in with Bill and their leader is Cameron Hayward. An all-pro defensive lineman is someone who expects the best from himself, as well as from his teammates. You can also add how he expects the best from the national sports media after ESPN published their defensive lineman rankings.

Before we get to the top 10 and Hayward’s rankings, there’s a breakdown of how Jeremy Fowler has consolidated the rankings:

Here’s how our process worked: Voters gave us their top 10 players in a position, then we compiled the results and ranked the candidates based on the top-10 vote count, composite average, hundreds of interviews, research and film-study support from ESPN NFL. I did. Analyst Matt Bowen. In total, more than 50 voters have submitted a ballot in at least one position and in many cases in all positions. We had several bonds, so we broke them with our rankings with the help of extra votes and follow-up calls. Each section is filled with quotes and nuggets from voters to each person – even honorable mention.

The goal is to identify the best players at the moment for 2022. This is not a five-year projection or a reward for achievement. Who are the best players of today? Quite easy.

Okay, out of that, let’s go to the rankings:

Top 10

1. Aaron Donald – Los Angeles Rams
2. Jeffrey Simmons – Tennessee Titans
3. Chris Jones – Kansas City Chiefs
4. Deferred Buckner – Indianapolis Colts

5. Cameron Hayward – Pittsburgh Steelers

Highest ranking: 3 | Lowest ranking: In the top 10

Age: 33 | Last year’s ranking: 4

Hayward’s trajectory in the early 30’s was impressive.

“Look at his number and look at him – there’s no fall,” said an NFL scouting director.

Hayward, who turned 33 in May, combined for 11 sacks, 89 tackles and 15 tackles in his best performances in 11 years for first-team All-Pro status and a fifth in a row on the way to becoming a pro bowler.

“I still like Cam Hayward as a top person,” said a separate NFC executive. “He’s just got a strength in his game where, when he gets his hands on you, he can give you back. And she plays with her ass off. “

After recording 16 defended passes (batted or deflected passes), Hayward could have a post-playing career in volleyball after recording the highest score in this group. And he did it without tweeting recently retired lineman Stephen, who missed all of last season by his side.

6. Kenny Clark – Green Bay Packers
7. Vita Via – Tampa Bay Buccaneers
8. Arik Armstead – San Francisco 49ers
9. Grady Jarrett – Atlanta Falcons
10. Jonathan Allen – Commander Washington

Of course, Steelers fans were annoyed that Hayward was ranked 5th in the league in his position, but Hayward himself was. Following the publication of the rankings, Hayward posted a general message on Twitter.

On top of that, Hayward even tweeted to the list’s author, Jeremy Fowler, to let him know he wasn’t thrilled with the results.

There will be some fans who think Hayward should just keep quiet and do his job. Still, I think someone like Hayward would use this list and his frustration with the list is safe to say as the inspiration for the 2022 season. In that case, the ESPN ranking could be a blessing in disguise for Howard 5th overall.

But what do you think about the list? Also, what do you think of Hayward’s public reaction to the rankings? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below, and be sure to stay with BTSC for the latest news and notes in the vicinity of the Steelers to prepare the team to report to training camp at St. Vincent College on July 26th.
