An explosion was heard in the Wazir Akbar Khan area of ​​the Afghan capital, Reuters reported, Interior Ministry spokesman Bismulah Habib confirmed. The blast was heard near an area of ​​the capital that was once home to the city’s ‘Green Zone’, home to many foreign embassies and NATO. It is now controlled by the ruling Taliban.

ToloNews reported that the explosion occurred in the Afghan capital as worshipers were leaving a mosque, and the number of casualties was not yet known.

There have been several deadly explosions at mosques during Friday prayers in recent months, some of which have been claimed by the Islamic State.
