American Airlines, Gevo Sign SAF Deal

American Airlines has signed a deal with sustainable aviation fuel maker Gevo to commit to purchasing 100,000 gallons of SAF per year for five years, with deliveries starting in 2026, the companies announced Friday.

The carrier is part of the Oneworld airline alliance, and the deal falls under the agreement signed by Zivo and Oneworld in March, in which the member carriers planned to buy SAF from Gevo.

The American Airlines contract is worth about $2.75 billion over a five-year term, according to Gevo, which added that the deal is the largest fuel-sales deal ever made by the company. This is the largest SAF commitment by an American by carrier.

The agreement is subject to certain conditions, including Gevo developing, financing, constructing and operating one or more production facilities specified in the agreement, according to Gevo.

American is the latest Oneworld partner to enter into a SAF agreement with Zivo, following Japan Airlines, Finnair and its Lingas.
