Happy Friday, and Happy Second Bank Holiday to our friends in Victoria. We have a few things to catch up on, so let’s dive right in.
1. Optus suffers a cyber attack
It’s a bad week to be Optus and an even worse week to be one of its customers. At around 2pm AEST yesterday, the telco published a blog post informing customers that it had been the victim of a cyber attack and that the data accessed was serious. Not only were names, DOBs and addresses leaked, but some customers’ (past and present), driving license or passport information were also accessed. yes
2. Instagram is down
By Friday morning, users around the world were reporting that Instagram had been bug-out. The people at Insta later confirmed the access issues on their Twitter handle saying, “We are aware that some people are having problems accessing Instagram. We are working to get things back to normal as soon as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience, and hang tight! #Instagramdown.” That’s BAU now.
And we are back! We have resolved the issue due to today’s outage and apologize for any inconvenience. https://t.co/2Av4sC4C5B

3. Twitter forgot to log out users
Twitter sent on Thursday Email to some users Said that due to a bug, it didn’t close their active log-in sessions on Android and iOS after resetting the password. This means that if you actively change your password on one device, but still have an open session on another device, that session may not be closed. Web sessions were not affected, Twitter said.
4. TikTok’s parent company now has a VR headset
Meta has been horrified by TikTok’s dominance of the social media market, and now it looks like the company behind the app, ByteDance, is bringing out a headset for Meta’s own stake in the Metaverse that’s the closest we’ve seen to the Quest 2’s price. ByteDance’s VR subsidiary, Pico, has introduced the Pico 4. The device will sell for €429 (around $640) for the 128GB version and €499 (around $740) for the 256GB version. Meta Quest 2 starts at $629.
Imagination is the only limitation #PICO4
PICO 4 is equipped to provide an advanced #VR Experience without compromising on comfort.

5. Apple is pushing out ‘camera shake’ fix
Apple released iOS 16.0.2 on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, fixing a bug that could cause the camera to vibrate in some third-party apps. While we didn’t experience this issue, our review mostly praised the new iPhone 14 Pro Max, with users posting videos of their devices vibrating and physically failing while trying to use apps like TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram.
